Touch Up Paint Tips

Don’t you just hate it when your pristine paint job is sullied by a random scratch? Where did it even come from? Now you have to go all the way to a body shop to have the thing buffed out! Only, you actually don’t. Applying touch up paint is something you can easily handle yourself. All you need is some sandpaper, warm water and soap, and a matchstick, toothpick or fine brush.

First, use the warm water and soap to clean the scratch out – can’t have debris in there when you’re trying to repair it. Now, use the sandpaper (3,000 grit for shallow scratches, 2,000 grit for deep scratches) to smooth the surface. If the scratches deep enough to cut through all the paint, you may need to apply and then sand some primer at this point. Once this is done, you’re ready to apply the paint using that matchstick, toothpick or brush. Once it dries, the scratches gone, and you repair the problem for a fraction the cost of an auto body shop visit.
